The classes are too big for anything resembling personal attention, and the sisters maintain a little bit of a drill sergeant attitide about lindy - do it their way or else. You can look out over a club full of dancers and know who learned from them - they don't tolerate a lot of individualism in their dance students. But to be fair, a good place to learn the basics - I wouldn't take an intermediate or advanced class from them again, but I do send beginning dancers here. They're also responsible for bringing Frankie Manning out of retirement, so we have to give them credit for that. Bring lots & lots of water, set yourself up in front of one of the fans, and make sure you dress like you're heading for the Everglades - the temperature and humidity can kill you if you're not prepared. They teach everything, from East Coast Swing and Lindy to aerials and Latin. Visit their web site for complete information. Roscoe Farnsworth Swing (Lindy Hop,
Charleston, St. Louis Shag, East Coast, West Coast), Salsa, Cha-Cha, Latin,
Disco, Two-step, Cowboy Swing. If you want to preview his teaching style,
check out his classes at the Derby. Privates and various classes also
available. Essex & Lee "Essex &
Lee love turning new people on to swing dancing! They teach the highly
popular 6-week Monday night “Beyond the Basics” series at
Memories in Whittier. Connexions Dance Studio "We currently offer six-week group classes on Monday nights with instructor Laura Shigemitsu who says, 'My passion is Lindy Hop!'
